SatNode wDSL

SATCONXION a leading company in Satellite Internet connectivity and IP Voice solutions now offers tools for access and traffic control suitable for the integration and efficient distribution of satellite access into Wifi, Cable, WiMAX or xDSL networks.

New SatNode wDLS control systems:

Since October 2003 Satconxion provides intelligent solutions for the integration between the satellite gateway and a WiFi or WiMAX access point, and also for integration with Cable or DSL head-ends. These systems provide the user with a totally secure access and manage an automatic and dynamic control of the bandwidth.

SatNode Router - Technical information

SATNODE ROUTER Standard, is an advanced routing and prioritisation VOIP system based on the use of Planet technology. Under each link you can download the specifications for each of the following systems:

BM-500, for small LAN with Internet access of up to 512 kbps.
BM-2002, for small LAN with Internet access of up to 2 Mbps.
BM-2010, for medium LAN with Internet access of up to 10 Mbps.
BM-2100, for big networks or headends with Internet of up to 100 Mbps.

SATNODE ROUTER Premium is an advanced routing and prioritisation VOIP system based on the use of SmartBand, powered by IROS (Inteligent Routing Operative System) which enables us to provide totally on-demand systems. Following are some of the functions that IROS can handle, independent of the type of network to be applied to:

  • VPN IROS SERVER
  • VPN MICROSOFT SERVER
  • HOSTING AND WEB SERVER
  • MAIL SERVER
  • FILE SERVER, FTP
  • PROXY SERVER
  • WEB CACHE SERVICES
  • NAT, DNAT, PAT(,….) SERVICES
  • FIREWALL
  • DHCP SERVER

The system can also work in Linux platforms, specially designed to serve internet accesses in environments where the operator provides a single Internet access line, to be shared by various registered users and allowing also for the connection of visitors (temporal or occasional users). The system includes advanced mechanisms to perform blocking, authentication and invoicing.

SatNode router

SATNODE ROUTER is specially designed for Internet accesses in:

  • Rural areas using a single satellite access
  • Residential areas using a single Internet access line
  • Other environments where wireless technology is used to reach the final user, such as office buildings, trade shows, etc.

SATNODE ROUTER is an ideal complement to wireless access technologies which are ideal (because of their high power range and low installation cost) to reach potential clients in rural areas or other places where ADSL or other Technologies do not reach.

SATNODE ROUTER provides advanced mechanisms of traffic management and a quality of service (QoS) which is not even included in some of the most sophisticated wireless access points (AP´s). These mechanisms include:

  • Blocking system for un-registered users
  • Quality of service (QoS) (minimum and maximum transference rates, traffic prioritisation, …)
  • Advanced systems for queue management aimed towards the fair sharing of the available bandwidth between the connected users, even avoiding the system to collapse by users taking up a disproportionately big share of the bandwidth
  • Traffic statistics of the registered users and reports towards the ISP invoicing systems

SATNODE ROUTER has at its disposal advanced tools of maintenance for the use of the ISP such as:

  • SNMP Polling of the wireless antennas and other installed equipments and Internet connection monitoring
  • ‘Port Forwarding’ tools for the remote access to the installed equipments (SNMP, Telnet, HTTP, …) through a single IP public address (NAT)
  • Alarm notice registration in an internal data base and notification (SNMP traps, XML messages to SATNODE CMS (Central Management System) or via e-mail)

SATNODE ROUTER can provide access to registered users and to temporary or occasional registered users (visitors). Registered users have a specific access profile including IP directioning and QoS parameters.

SATNODE ROUTER defines pre-established routes for the users so that the Internet connection is established immediately and without the need of authentication. On the other hand, visitors are those occasional or temporal users not registered in the ISP data base, which can benefit of the remaining bandwidth not being used by the registered users. For these users the SATNODE ROUTER incorporates a RADIUS client which allows them to validate and authenticate against a RADIUS central Server which can already be implemented in the ISP or which can be also included to the central server named SATNODE CMS (Central Management System).

SATNODE ROUTER also provides advanced services to the visiting users such as:

  • Plug & Play Internet connection. The user does NOT have to change any network configuration in his laptop computer.
  • Capturing and re-directioning of SMTP traffic. The visitor can send e-mails even if his SMTP server will not accept incoming external petitions (relay).

Finally SATNODE ROUTER can be complemented with Internet shops based in the cybercafe software CyberCafeService using a Windows 2000 PC. CyberCafeService incorporates advanced security mechanisms, local time control and an internal RADIUS client which providing a complete solution and is ready to be integrated within the CRM platform of the ISP

  • Wireless access
  • Advanced maintenance tools
  • Registered vs visiting users

SATNODE ADVANCED ROUTER includes the following features:

  • NAT for the use of a single IP public address shared between different registered and visiting users
  • Visiting users access control
  • Advanced Firewall (set for each network interface and even for each defined user)
  • PnP internet connection for visitors
  • IP traffic management y statistic registry for invoicing
  • Queue management for traffic prioritisation and quality of service (QoS) support

SATNODE ROUTER incorporates QoS facilities which allow to define different types of users. Following is an example:
Class A clients have a CIR (minimum guaranteed transfer rate) and a maximum bandwidth which can be defined in both Upstream and Downstream).
If the user is not using bandwidth, his bandwidth can be used by other clients.
Class A clients have a priority over Class B clients, therefore Class B clients can only demand traffic if no Class A client has pending traffic.
CIR can be specified in Kb/s in both ways.
within Class A the operator can define subclasses A1, A2, A3 with the same parameters but with different priorities (see example below).
In this case the spare bandwidth is assigned in firstplace to the users Class A1, in second place to the users Class A2 and so on.
Class B clients do not have a guaranteed bandwidth.

User Priority (**)  Multipost   MIN Load (Kb/S)   MAX Load (Kb/S)   MAX Traffic (GB)   Options
Company 0 YES 25,6 256 0 (*) NA
Professional 1 NO 12,8 128 0(*) NA
Residencial 2 NO 6,4 64 2 lower (***)
Heavy 3 NO 0 32 1

(*) Equals to without monthly traffic upper limit
(**) The priority applies to the rest of the bandwidth (not used) (0 = maximum priority, 3 = minimum priority)
(***) The possible options once the maximum traffic is exceeded are:
Cut the service, lower the type (the residential user will pass to be a heavy user until the end of the month or do not do anything).
The SATNODE ROUTER uses stochastic algorithms to avoid that the users collapse the available bandwidth. This class is normally assigned to visitors or registered users with little requirements (for example, students). A global bandwidth can be assigned to be shared by all the Class B clients but individual guaranteed bandwidths can not be applied in the above-mentioned class.
SATNODE ROUTER can be operated in two modes:
In Master mode all the computer configurations are made internally using the integrated web tool called SatView. All the configuration parameters including registered users and traffic statistics are locally stored in a database.
In Slave mode, the entire system and users configuration is made remotely using the SATNODE CMS Central Management System. The CMS can be integrated with the RADIUS server of the ISP, NOC, the CRM and the turnover system. All the CMS configurations and reports can be made with the internal web-based management tool, the CyberView. Additionally, the CMS can be provided with communication interfaces of specific communications for the supply, CRM and ISP turnover systems.
